CEMEX UAE conducted fire emergency preparation and hands-on training to employees
At CEMEX, safety and well-being of our people are important to us and we are committed to identifying and reducing any risks associated with our operations to provide them a safe working environment, with zero injuries. We expect our employees to contribute to this goal, by ensuring zero tolerance of any practices that could lead to injuries, accidents or illnesses by following necessary measures and applying correct procedures at work.
In our operation in Al Quoz & Jebel Ali, our health and safety team have conducted a series of surprise fire drills to evaluate the employees ability to respond with urgency and knowledge on the protocols, like use of designated exits and assembly points. In Abu Dhabi, our team along with some third-party fire experts went on-site to provide a special training. The employees were given hands-on fire extinguisher experience, general principles on how to use, and the hazards involved with initial stage firefighting.
“We make sure to carry out surprise fire drills at least once a year or bi-annually, our aim is to see employees reaction time to what they think is a genuine situation and to ensure that everyone’s aware on what to do in the event of a real fire. We also want to see how we can improve on our evacuation procedures and resources and to get valuable feedback from the people on how they think the drill could have been more effective,” said Fayaz Mohd Shah, Health & Safety Manager.
Safety is the top priority within our company and we will continue to perform activities that will reduce the risks in our every day operations. It is a shared responsibility by all people working on our sites, employees and contractors alike, and we will continue to make every effort to reach our ZERO4LIFE goals.
