Safety Leaders Enhance their Skills at CEMEX Health & Safety Academy
CEMEX in the UAE held the second batch of the Health and Safety Academy Module 1 last March 29th to 30that Sheraton Hotel Mall of the Emirates.

We aim to create a healthy working environment for our employees and to bring them home safe to their families every day. That’s why CEMEX established the Health & Safety Academy, a three-module educational program that aims to improve on the health & safety strategies and skills.
"I believe the Health and Safety Academy is an excellent initiative that will enable our people to enhance TLC – Tenaciousness, Leadership and Consistency and to guide them on how to empower others in the organization. We want to make the leaders understand the importance of interacting with their employees and giving positive and constructive feedback the right way,” CEMEX UAE Operations & Logistics Director – Alfredo Nicdao said.
The first module is called Foundation which put emphasis on enhancing leadership skills and ability to inspire others to achieve the highest level of health and safety. The second module is called the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) which contains the 14 elements that leaders must know to carry out our business activities in a safe and efficient manner. The third module, called HSMS Proficiency, designed to provide managers in the operations in-depth knowledge of the elements such as hazard identification, risk management and contractor management. Upon completion of the three modules, the attendees will receive a special recognition from the Global Health & Safety Academy.
The first batch of the Foundation Module in the UAE was conducted by Robert House, CEMEX Health & Safety Advisor, last 24th to 25th July 2016. Recently, the second group for the same module was held at Sheraton Hotel in Mall of the Emirates from 29th – 30th of March, participated by 20 of our supervisors and managers from different lines of business. It was facilitated by in-house trainers, Martin Puthusserry, Health & Safety Officer and Mohammed Javeed Abdul Gani, Electrical and Instrumentation Advisor. The module tackles about our priority in the life and integrity of our people and to ensure that Zero4Life is not just a goal but a responsibility that we must hold each other accountable.
The attendees actively participated with the activities and were involved with the workshop sessions that aims to make them work together as ONE team. At the end of the training, the safety leaders appreciated what they learned and were very much passionate to show changes in their leadership style that they can apply in their respective work area. “The program is an effective driver to bring about an improvement to our health & safety culture and to help us be closer to our Zero4Life goals. The Health and Safety Academy will raise awareness and engage our leaders to better understand their roles they undertake within the business and to have the necessary health and safety competency for their daily activities,” CEMEX UAE Planning and Administration Director – Alejandro Garcia said.
